# The Canvas

> A workspace of live panes — figures, tables, maps and Petra, side by side.

The Canvas is a workspace you compose: panes laid out on a grid, each
holding something live — a figure, a data table, a map view, a note, a
Petra chat. Where the other pages each show one thing well, the canvas is
where you put *your* combination together and keep it.

## Workspaces

Create as many as you need — "QAQC review", "Targeting meeting", "Weekly
ops". Each keeps its layout and panes; the list on the left switches
between them. A fresh canvas starts with a sensible three-pane layout you
can immediately rearrange.

## What goes in a pane

Charts you've made with Petra land here with one click — the expand
button on any figure in chat opens it on the canvas, full size and still
live. Add tables, notes, and views of your project data alongside; drag,
resize, and save.

## Petra in frame

The chat rides along on the canvas, so "swap that histogram for copper"
or "add a table of the top intercepts" happens in place — the panes
update as you talk. Batch imports also report their progress here, so a
long import is something you can *watch*.

## Reports and datarooms

Two special workspace types build on the same canvas machinery: composed
**reports** (sections, figures and text assembled into a document) and
**datarooms** (a curated, shareable room of project material — covered in
*Sharing your data*).

*In development:* geostatistics panes are being built and will show up
badged as such — not ready for customer use yet.
