# Claim plotting

> From location notices and survey paperwork to plotted claim polygons on your map — starting from a chat upload.

Claim plotting turns paper — location notices, certificates, survey
descriptions — into claim polygons plotted on your interactive map.

## How it works

Upload the documents for a claim block into a Petra chat and say you want
them plotted. Petra reads the paper (with vision — old scans and
handwritten notices included), frames the map on the ground the notice
names, and works out the geometry: bearings and distances, tie points to
known corners, and the metes-and-bounds arithmetic that turns
"N 45° E, 600 feet" into a polygon on the ground.

When the notice ties to a landmark no record can resolve — an old shaft,
a named boulder, a survey monument — Petra tells you **what** the
monument is (in the notice's own words), **roughly where** to look, and
**how rough** that estimate is, then asks you to click the spot on the
live map. Your click establishes the point; a block that names several
monuments collects them one ask at a time, and every claim gets its own.

The result lands as plotted claims on your map with an honest per-claim
confidence tier, alongside the land holdings you imported directly.
Plotted claims keep their link back to the source paperwork, so you can
always answer "why is this corner here?"

## Availability

Claim plotting is being rolled out gradually. If it's enabled for your
account, just ask Petra — "can you plot claims from a location notice?"
— and upload the paper in chat. If it isn't enabled yet and you need it,
get in touch — we're onboarding projects steadily. This topic will grow
a live walkthrough when the rollout completes.
