# Finding your way around

> The rail, the dashboard, the project switcher, and where Petra lives — two minutes of orientation.

Whether you just created your first project or you were invited into someone
else's, geoDB always has the same shape. Two minutes here saves an hour of
poking around.

## The rail

The icon rail on the far left follows you everywhere. Top to bottom it holds
the pages you'll live in: the dashboard, import, the map, the 3D viewer, the
canvas — and near the bottom, the **Guide icon** that brought you here and
the **Petra diamond** that opens a chat with your assistant from any page.

## The dashboard

The dashboard is home base for the **active project** — the project named in
the switcher at the top of the page. Everything on the dashboard is scoped
to it: data counts, recent activity, things needing your attention, and the
guide card. If the numbers look wrong, check the switcher first — you may
simply be looking at a different project.

## Switching projects and companies

You can belong to several companies, and each company holds projects. The
switcher changes your active company and project; every page follows it.
People invited to just one project see just that one — nothing leaks
between projects or companies.

## Petra

Petra is the chat assistant in the bottom corner. She can answer questions
about your data, import files you hand her, build charts and summaries, and
walk you to the right page when you're lost — she offers buttons, and you
do the clicking. She's grounded in this same guide, so "how do I…?"
questions get the documented answer, not a guess.

## Light and dark

The theme toggle lives in the menu under your avatar (top right). Every page
— including this guide — works in both.
