# QGIS and the field app

> The QGIS plugin and the mobile field app — the same project, at the desk and at the rig.

Two more doors into the same project: the **geoDB QGIS plugin** for GIS
work at the desk, and the **geoDB Field** mobile app for data capture
away from it.

## The QGIS plugin

Install the geoDB plugin in QGIS and sign in with your geoDB account —
the plugin talks to the same interface the mobile app uses, with your
normal permissions (two-factor included). Your project's spatial data —
collars, samples, holdings, vector layers — loads as QGIS layers you can
symbolise and analyse alongside anything else in your GIS. For live
tabular drilling data in QGIS, the ODBC connection (previous topic) is
the companion door.

## The field app

geoDB Field (iOS and Android) is for the truck and the outcrop: point
samples, field notes, structural measurements, photos — captured on the
device, GPS-tagged, and synced to the project when you're back on
signal. Offline capture is the point: work all day without coverage and
sync once, without hand-copying anything.

Forty seconds of it, silent and captioned:

Drilling contractors have their own corner of the mobile app for daily
shift reports — that's covered in *Running your program*.

## One database, every door

The desk, the GIS and the field all read and write the same project —
there is no "field copy" to reconcile later. A sample captured on the
phone is on your maps and in your exports as soon as it syncs.
