# The 3D viewer

> Terrain, drill traces and downhole data in a live 3D scene — no desktop software needed.

Source: https://geodb.io/guide/topic/threed/ · Category: Seeing your data
The 3D viewer turns your project into a scene you can orbit: real terrain,
drill traces desurveyed from your survey data, and downhole geology and
grades painted along the holes.

## Building the scene

The scene sets itself up when you open it: drill traces are built from
your surveys and the terrain is fetched for the project's area (see the
topography topic). The status strip under the scene says what is still
building and why.

## What you can show

- **Terrain** — from your project's elevation data, with imagery draped.
- **Drillholes** — collars and traces; colour and filter them, and paint
intervals along the trace: assay grades by ranges you define, lithology
and alteration in their lookup colours.
- **Point data** — surface samples, structural measurements, water sites.
- **Land holdings** — claim polygons draped on the terrain.

Grade ranges and their colours are configurable per element — the same
ranges drive the map and strip logs, so red means the same thing
everywhere.

## Sharing it

Save what is on screen as a named view (Views, at the top): your team
opens the same view from its link.

*In development:* geostatistics — block models and grade estimation are
being built and will appear here when ready. What you see today is
display, not estimation.
